I was originally a photographer with a deep fascination for the body and how it all works. I did my first massage certification over 20 years ago and have been working as a therapist for 18 years.
My passion for working with cancer and other illness began when my Mother was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. After her operation she was in ICU for several weeks and I started to do a few techniques and was able to evaluate her reaction via the monitor. It was empowering to me to be able to watch the subtle benefits to gentle touch, improvements in O2 , BP, and pulse.
As she improved I continued to work with her and then became a volunteer at the Cancer Care Centre as I felt that these benefits should be shared.
I studied the Oncology massage and the Complex lymphatic therapy, but the best learning has been from working with all kinds of people, at all stages of illness. I continue to volunteer at the Cancer Care Centre and have been there 12 years.
Why The Pelican?....
I love pelicans and find them fascinating.
In relation to my work, it is the symbolism that attracts me. According to the laws of physics they should not be able to fly - yet they are beautiful and majestic both in flight and on water.
So it reminds me that sometimes the extraordinary can be achieved against the odds.
